Paradox 8&9/BDE Utilities
Important: The following utilities are offered as "Freeware" and no warranties or guarantees expressed or implied as to their safety or usefulness. The user downloads and uses these utilities AT THEIR OWN RISK.
BDE Version Support - These utilities support BDE versions with a file timestamp of 3/11/97 4:00 AM or greater.
If you encounter a problem, I would appreciate an email describing how you are using the utility and the problem you encountered. IF I have time I will follow-up on your email and see if it is something I can correct. Suggestions are always welcome, but I can not promise to respond.
BDE Backup Utility. This utility dumps the entire bde configuration, aliases and "key" registry settings to an ini file. This allows you to restore at the click of a button (great for non-computer users). You can also transport this file to various workstations and run.. (great for keeping consistent configurations across multiple machines.) You can also have the user email this file to your tech support, edit it to make the necessary corrections and email it back. At the push of a button, they are back in business. What does it save?:
• BDESYSTEM - local share, fourdigityear, yearBias, leadingzero, net dir location, config and dll path (registry).
• Standard aliases
• SQL aliases and ALL settings whether used or not.
• Registry "property" settings: RefreshRate, RetryRate, BlankZero (currently only detects Pdox8 and Pdox9, full and runtime)
BDE Configuration Utility. Have you ever been on the phone with a client and tried to walk them through fixing a problem with an alias or BDE configuration, using the BDE Administrator. The user gets lost and you spend time trying to describe a complex UI to a novice user. Well this utility allows you make important changes with a very basic UI and keeps the user from accidentally farkling the BDE. Using a much simpler interface that makes intelligent cross checks keeps the user out of trouble. Also saves many of the last changes made so the user can "backup" one step if they goof. (It is recommended that the BDE Backup be use along with this utility.) Only limited changes can be made, they are: Net Directory, Alias path, new Alias (standard only), registry- location of dll and config file, local share, fourdigityear, yearbiased, leadingZeroM, leadingZeroD. Based on many years of experience these are the settings that get messed up most frequently.

Delete Lck and Net File Utility. Just point it at a drive or directory and push the button, cleans up way-ward lck and net files. Safer than Explorer because only three files can be deleted: Paradox.lck, Pdoxusrs.lck and Pdoxusrs.net. Novice users can still be intimidated by Explorer or miss files and wonder why that error message persists.

InterBase Migration Utility. A utility written in Paradox that manages the migration of tables from the Paradox format to Interbase. Works with all versions of Interbase. I could be easily enhanced to utilized other SQL backends. Provided "As Is" Sample data included to assist in understanding how it works. No documentation.
